JANUARY 2024 WRAP UP

January was a rough month of drama watching for me. I know I talked about this a bit on the blog's social media account but I will talk about it again. When I hit the top of threshold of stress, I don't watch dramas. I don't know why this happens because I do use dramas to destress from life but I have a threshold for stress. I hit the top of my threshold in January due to stress in my life which meant I had multiple days where I did not watch a single episode of a drama.

DRAMAS/MOVIES I COMPLETED IN JANUARY

Due to me not watching dramas for multiple days, I did not finish a lot of dramas in January. I am now behind on a lot of dramas as well. So, February will be a month where I finish A TON of dramas. I still did get around to finishing a couple of dramas so, there are definitely still some dramas to talk about.

All Korean Awards Shows for 2023 (VIKI/AMAZON PRIME): This is a tradition that I always do at the start of a new year. This is the 5th year in a row that I have done this. I watch all 3 of the network Awards for the dramas the premiered in the year that just ended. So, I started out 2024 by watched the MBC, KBS and SBS Award shows. I always like doing for three reasons. One reason is I like to revisit the dramas I loved from the year before. My second reason is I like to see what network I have seen the most dramas from in the past year. There is always 1 network where I have watched a lot more of their dramas than others. The last reason is that all three networks use their awards shows to show some preview to what they are airing in the new year. So, checking out the award shows to see the previews is always fun.

Death's Game Part 1 and Part 2 (Kdramas) (AMAZON PRIME): I think it is not surprising to anyone but I loved Death's Game. Now, I can announce something as well! I NOW HAVE A PODCAST! I have a review of both parts of Death's Game on my new podcast now. You can Search for the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts now. I will still say my little review here but if you want a more detailed and in-depth review, you can go listen to that episode now. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Death's Game. I know a lot of people feel the same way as me. This drama blew my mind. The acting was amazing. The story and writing were perfect. It is the kind of kdrama that leaves an impression. A Kdrama where you are thinking about for days after you have finished the last episode.

The Mutations (Cdrama) (iQIYI): I wanted this drama to be better. I love when dramas take risks. I will always support countries and dramas who experiment with their dramas. The Mutations took a lot of risks and experimented with its story. Some things worked but others did not work at all. The acting was good but the story did not support the actors. The actors were doing the best they could with what the story gave them. The story wasn't fleshed out enough and fell apart at the end. The CGI/special effects were also inconsistent. I feel sorry for this drama because it had a good idea and could have been different and unique but it just wasn't executed well.

My Man is Cupid (Kdrama) (AMAZON PRIME): This kdrama was just ok. It could have been a lot better. First, you could tell that this drama was made a couple of years ago and now just getting the greenlight to air. It seemed outdated a bit. I saw NO POINT to any of the side characters. They did not need to be there. I liked the romance but I will agree with a lot of other people who dropped this drama, there could have been more romance. I did like our main couple and thought the acting was good overall. The drama could have been 10-12 episodes because the drama used A LOT of flashbacks. The pacing was weird and there were definitely plot holes by the end.

NEW FEBRUARY 2024 DRAMAS I AM EXCITED FOR:

January bombarded us with dramas and now February has very few new dramas coming out. This is a blessing for me because I am behind on most of my dramas, So, I can catch up and/or finish a lot of the dramas I am currently watching. There are still some new dramas that I plan to check out though and a good variety for me too!

Amidst a Snowstorm of Love (Cdrama) (VIKI/WETV/TENCENT) [PREMIRES FEBRUARY 2ND, 2024]

I think there is no surprise to anyone that this is on my list of dramas that I am looking forward to in February. I know a lot of people who watch cdramas are looking forward to this one. I like both leads. I am curious to see them together. I am curious to see what their chemistry is going to be like. Just given what the title is and everything, it is not surprising that this is airing when it is still winter. I am sure we are going to get a lot of winter scenes or cozy scenes which is always nice to watch when you are curled up on the couch yourself.

Branding in Seongsu (Kdrama) (VIKI): [PREMIERES FEBRUARY 5TH, 2024]

I talked about this kdrama and the next one in my blogpost ANTICIPATED KDRAMAS OF 2024 so I won't go into too much detail here. You can go to that blogpost and read more about both of these kdramas if you want. As I say in the other blogpost, I am a sucker for an office romance. This also looks like it could be a Noona romance AND a body switch drama. All of these things got my attention and I am at least going to check it out and see what I think.

A Killer Paradox (Kdrama) (NETFLIX): [PREMIERES FEBRUARY 9TH, 2024]

I talked about A Killer Paradox in my blogpost ANTICIPATED KDRAMAS OF 2024 so I won't go into too much detail here. We now have a poster and a trailer which made me even more excited for this drama. I mean it is a crime drama so, I was going to watch this drama anyway. As I said in the blogpost, the cast is solid. The supernatural element added into a crime drama also will make me at least check out a drama. I am just so excited to watch this cat and mouse crime drama.

House of Ninjas (Jdrama) (NETFLIX): [PREMIERES FEBRUARY 15TH, 2024]

Now I have only seen a poster and the cast for this drama. The cast looks fantastic. The synopsis sounds something that I would love to watch. I mean who doesn't want to watch ninjas duke it out in modern Japan. The poster gives me gritty vibes. This looks like it will be a dark and gritty Jdrama. I heard that this was announced back in like 2022 and now we are getting to see it in 2024. I just want to see some badass fights.

Shogun (Jdrama) (HULU): [PREMIERES FEBRUARY 27TH, 2024]

THIS DRAMA LOOKS GORGEOUS!! I am so happy that it will be on Hulu. I don't think I have ever watched a historical Japanese drama so; I am excited that this will be my first one. I know I have seen some Japanese historical movies. I know this is based off of a pretty famous novel. THE TRAILER AND STILLS LOOK GORGEOUS! Also, this cast is STACKED with some very well know Japanese actors and actresses.

January was a slower month for me but February is definitely going to pick up. I like that I am going to be watching a variety in February along with the dramas I am currently watching. What did you complete in January? What are you looking forward to in February?
