MUSIC MONDAYS - SPOTLIGHT

THE WAY THAT ONE OK ROCK'S NEWEST ALBUM HAS GRABBED AHOLD OF ME!! I literally have not stopped listening to Luxury Disease since it was released. So, I figured WHY NOT do a Music Mondays SPOTLIGHT blog post on them since I clearly am not going to stop listening to this album any time soon. It will probably end up on my end of the year Spotify playlists. I would be shocked if it didn't at this point.

I am trying to remember when I first discovered One Ok Rock. I have been listening to these guys for a LONG TIME! If I remember correctly, it was through the Japanese live adaption movie of Rurouni Kenshin like 10 years ago. Yeah, I think it was that movie. I think a lot of international fans found them the same way. If you have not seen that movie or the entire franchise - HIGHLY recommend. Ever since I found them though, I have listened to everything they have ever released.

There are multiple reasons why I started listening to this band and still do now, 10 years later. One big reason is the lead singer's voice. His voice just evokes so much emotion and he has a lot of range. I love that One Ok Rock has different sounds. They can do the hard rock or screamo sound but also sort of have a pop rock sound. I like that they have variety in their discography. It gives the opportunity for people to find something they like. The entire group is so talented and I love the instrumental of their songs. I like that they experiment with their instrumental. One Ok Rock also has a lot of stage presence. Their concert videos on Youtube are always fun to watch. I have never seen them live but I want to one day. Lastly, I love the messages that they give in their song. They speak about all kinds of topics that people can relate too from love to heartbreak to social issues even things like Climate change. They have used their music as a platform which I always support artists who do that.

Here are some of my favorite One Ok Rock Music Videos that have been released over the years. IT WAS SO HARD TO JUST PICK 5!! I love so many of their songs and music videos.

THE BEGINNING

The song that started it all. I love the lead vocals in the chorus and the guitars just follow him with their rifts. I can't believe this song is 10 years old already. The lead's vocals are full of emotion with this song. Takahiro is literally scream singing at the end, showing off his range. I love that guitar and drum just go wild in the background.

TAKING OFF

I love how this song enters the chorus with the vocals and guitar following the melody together. I love that they change Takahiro's voice multiple times in the song. I don't know what they do with his voice but it sort of becomes muffled or has an echo to it. This music video also has an interesting story line in the music video. I love when music videos have storylines and those are interesting within themselves.

RENEGADES

THIS SONG - I can't tell you how many times I have listened to this song. I can't tell you how many times I have watched this music video. This song was also used in another Rurouni Kenshin movie. I LOVE THE MESSAGE OF THIS SONG! That epic scene of when the door opens and the light just shines through gets me every time.

BROKEN HEART OF GOLD

This is one song off their latest album. I am OBSESSED with their latest album which I know I said earlier in this blog post. This is one of my favorite songs off the album. I love how the pace of the song just changes as the pre-chorus comes in. I LOVE the message of this song too. This is just a beautifully shot music video as well.

SAVE YOURSELF

Another song off their latest album that I love. The instrumental in this song is great. I love that it escalates as the song goes on. I love that the music video also escalates as the song goes on. The tornado scenes are so good. The instrumental falling away at one point and just having the vocals is just so impactful

I am sure a lot of people have heard of ONE OK ROCK.

GO LISTEN TO LUXURY DISEASE PLEASE!!
