The Thai drama Manner of Death has come to an end. THIS MEANS I NEED TO WRITE MY FINAL REVIEW FOR THE DRAMA! Have you read my "FIRST IMPRESSIONS" of the drama? Check it out and read it first if you want to see if my opinions have changed from when I had only seen the first 6 episodes to now, after the drama is over.
Here is a quick synopsis of this drama for those of you who have not seen it yet - Dr. Bunnakit is a medical examiner in a rural hospital. One day he does an autopsy on a woman who died of an apparent suicide. His findings rule out suicide and he writes down homicide as the cause of death. This makes him a target of someone who wants this to stay hidden and swept under the rug. After more people start dying and his friend goes missing, he decides to conduct his own investigation which puts a target on his back. He teams up with Tan, who is one of the suspects, to solve the mystery.
My overall review of this Thai drama is IT IS A LOT OF FUN! It definitely wasn't perfect but I loved it as I watched it. It was entertaining and kept my interest every week. I think if you checked out this drama, you would not regret it. YOU ALSO GET TO BINGE IT NOW BECAUSE IT IS OVER!
WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS DRAMA
-THE CAST
Like I said in my FIRST IMPRESSIONS post for this drama, you can't talk about Manner of Death without talking about Max and Tul. Just as I said in my first impressions, MAX AND TUL'S CHEMISTRY WAS JUST EVERYTHING IN THIS DRAMA! It was absolutely electric when they were acting together which made watching this drama SO MUCH FUN! As this drama went on though, the entire cast really made this drama fun to watch. The acting was great and the cast had great chemistry together. You got more potential couples as the drama went on which I wasn't expecting. All of those couples had potential chemistry which I loved to see come out as the drama went on.
-CINEMATOGRAPHY
I think what I love the most about the cinematography of this drama was the scenic shots they had. It may have just been the location that the production decided to shoot in BUT MAN WHAT BEAUTIFUL NATURE SHOTS THIS DRAMA HAD! The sweeping mountain and forest shots were just amazing! I would just sit there in awe every time these shots would come on screen because they were always so breathtaking.
-STORY
I have to give MAJOR PROPS to the writer and production. THEY TOOK A RISK WITH THIS DRAMA AND STORY! This was a BL drama with a story that had not been done before. In my opinion, it paid off. Was it perfect? NO BUT it opened up doors in the BL drama world. It definitely was still centered around the 2 male leads' and their relationship but also had a murder mystery to be solved as well. As I said in my FIRST IMPRESSIONS, you could have easily replaced the 2 leads with a heterosexual couple and it would have still been very entertaining. This is a sign of a good writer, director and chemistry of the cast. I thought the story overall was great with lots of twists and turns. It was an enjoyable crime drama that you wanted to know who was the culprit in the end.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
-THE PACING
Like I said, the drama and its story were not perfect. The pacing, for me, seemed off in certain episodes. Now I might have this impression because I was watching an episode a week and you might not feel the same way since you can now binge it. There were some episodes and weeks where the episode was exciting and drama heavy. Other weeks, the episode seemed like a filler and dragged a bit. The pacing of this drama could have been better especially when it came to the murder mystery part but also some times with the leads' relationship. I thought we could have used some more skin-ship BUT I could just be selfish at this point because THE LEADS HAD SUCH FIERY CHEMISTRY! You just wanted them together all the time.
-RELATIONSHIPS
Something I was not expecting was to get the development of potential other romantic relationships in this drama. Now since it did happen, I ended the drama wanting more from these other relationships. The drama did concentrate on the two leads' relationship which was expected. Since we got hints and little scenes of other relationships, I thought we could have gotten more. The fact that I wanted more from the secondary couples just speaks volumes about their chemistry together.
