I talk about a lot of different topics on this blog. I feature all kinds of content on this blog. I try to watch a variety of dramas and other forms of entertainment from all countries. My motto is I try it once and if I don't like it, at least I tried. Because I watch so much stuff and try to mix it up a lot, inevitably there are genres or countries or types of content that I always feel like I neglect.
One BIG genre that I always seem to put to the side and never watch or only watch it from South Korea is Variety shows. All of the Asian countries have variety shows of all kinds. So, I am sort of writing this blog post to make me accountable and to remind myself that I have had these Chinese Variety shows on my list FOREVER now but HEY maybe you are not aware these exist either.
Now, I will say, I know that in China networks do the same show sometimes but for their own channel. So, there might be a variety show that I am interested in that might have multiple versions or names depending on the network. I just am picking the one that caught my eye but hey if you watch a lot of Chinese Variety shows and know of another network's show with the same concept, let me know. I want to check it out.
1 VARIETY SHOW I RECOMMEND
The one Chinese variety show that I have seen is Heart Signal. I have watched I think the first 3 seasons of this show. I found it in quarantine and BINGED the hell out of it. I am very excited that I have a couple of seasons I have not watched yet because that means MORE FOR ME TO WATCH! I also have not watched the other networks' versions of this show which I am excited about because again MORE CONTENT FOR ME TO WATCH!
Now, usually this would not be the kind of show I would usually go for BUT MAN I AM ALWAYS INVESTED IN IT! I always seem to become attached to certain people and the next thing I know I have binged the season. I have legit cried in some episodes. I honestly don't know why I get so invested but I always enjoy the show when I watch it. If you are a sappy romantic, you would love this show!
SOME CHINESE VARIETY SHOWS I WANT TO CHECK OUT
I am a sucker for a good dance competition show. I know China has a lot of these and I have yet to check any of them out. I love the talent and creativity that goes into these types of shows. I always have a blast watching them. So, I might have picked Street Dance of China for this blog post but this actually is just any dance competition show from China. 😂
This caught my eye for two reasons. One, I love when you put a group of people in a house or task them with a job together for a certain period of time. Summer Surf Shop sounds like it is that type of show. A group of celebrities coming together to run a surf shop and do outdoor activities. Reason 2 is that this show seems like it would be a more laid back and relaxing variety show. A show that a celebrity or audience would use to take a break from life and just get away. I like those types of variety shows.
I always try to figure out the murderer or solve the crime before the characters in crime dramas do. Who's the Murderer sounds like I will enjoy it a lot. I would be interested to see how in depth it goes with the character set-up and story. I will play along and try to solve the crime with the cast, especially the cast member who is casted as the detective. I also like that there is a new mystery every episode, well it seems like that is the idea.
I am curious about the concept for this drama. It sounds like it would be a chaotic fun time. I like that you got some games being played. I love detective stories so, the fact that detective stories are a major theme in this show has me interested in it. I like the idea of figuring out a mystery while trying to act it out. Well, that seems to me what this show is supposed to be. It seems it is a mix of acting and variety content. I am very curious about this show.
I am a sucker for the types of variety shows where they take a group of people, stick them in a house together and then film it. I hear that Hi! Housemate is this same concept. I don't know why I love this type of variety show but I am always drawn to it. Maybe it is the interactions between the housemates. Maybe it is the relationships that are formed through the experience. This is why Hi! Housemate has caught my eye.
