FIRST IMPRESSIONS: BOSSAM: STEAL THE FATE

I have talked about Bossam: Steal the Fate a couple of times on this blog since we first heard about it. THE DRAMA HAS FINALLY PREMIERED and let me tell you, it was worth the wait SO FAR! It is funny because I normally am not excited for historical Korean dramas but this drama was different. Now you get to read my FIRST IMPRESSIONS and maybe it will convince you to start this drama too.

As I have said with every other "FIRST IMPRESSIONS" post, I will be doing a final review once I am done with the drama. This post will cover my first initial thoughts of the drama. If my thoughts and opinions change by the end of the drama, that will be reflected in my final review. I am going to be very curious to see if and how my thoughts and opinions change from now to when I write the final review for Bossam: Steal the Fate.

A QUICK SYNOPSIS OF BOSSAM: STEAL THE FATE - Ba Woo makes money by doing Bossam - a customary remarriage procedure that took place during the Joseon period. At that time, a widow could not remarry, so a single man or a widower would kidnap the widow and marry her. Some of the kidnappings were agreed upon in advance and others were by force. While performing a Bossam, Ba Woo mistakenly kidnaps Princess Hwa In, the daughter of King Gwanghae and the daughter-in-law of his enemy Lee Yi Cheom. This leads to a series of events that result in them being on the run for their lives all while solving a conspiracy and finding out secrets. This is a 20 - episode drama and I have watched 4 episodes so far.

WHAT AM I LOVING

-THE LEADS: Jung Il Woo and Kwon Yu Ri are doing a FANTASTIC job in their roles. This is the first time I am watching Kwon Yu Ri in a drama and I'm very impressed. She has chemistry with both Jung Il Woo and Shin Hyun Soo which is fun to watch. I am just having a lot of fun watching the two leads in this drama. They just have SO MUCH chemistry together on screen so I am looking forward to their romance coming alive on screen.

-UNIQUE CONCEPT: This is the first drama to tackle the story of bossam, to my knowledge. This is what drew me to this drama because I was curious to see how that played out. I can tell the drama will have some usual Korean historical tropes like palace drama but the concept of bossam has definitely held my interest. The concept plays a huge part in the beginning of the drama so I am assuming that it might not be as important as the drama goes on but I am okay with that.

-CINEMATOGRAPHY: THIS DRAMA IS BEAUTIFUL!!! The cinematography in this drama is breathtaking. I just gasp at some of these sweeping nature shots. The picture above are stills from the drama if that is any clue on how beautiful this drama is. This drama may come from a lesser-known network (internationally at least) but that has definitely not affected the quality of the drama at all. Cinematography is one of the things I look forward too every time I click play on an episode ESPECIALLY if I know the cast will be in nature or the country side during the episode.

-THE STORY: As I stated above, the story definitely has kept my interest so far. I am curious if there will be any more fall out having to do with the concept of bossam in future episodes. I can tell there will be PLENTY of palace drama so that will be fun to watch. The leads have LOADS of chemistry so I am looking forward to the inevitable romance and seeing how that plays out. There are PLENTY of secrets and conspiracies to be revealed so I am sure that will cause LOTS of drama in future episodes. There is EVEN the potential of some characters going mad but that is just a theory on my end. Either way, this drama might bring in some historical drama tropes BUT if the story holds up for future episodes like it has so far in the episodes I have seen, it might be fun to watch these tropes play out.

WHAT AM I CAUTIOUS ABOUT

-THE LOVE TRIANGLE: There definitely is going to be the trope of a love triangle in this. Now I am both mad and not mad at this. I am not usually a fan of a love triangle because I find them annoying most of the time. I am not one to get second lead syndrome a lot. ON THE OTHER HAND, Kwon Yu Ri has chemistry with both men so I can see the potential of me getting second lead syndrome which will make the love triangle fun but also heart breaking.😭

RIGHT NOW - MY RATING FOR THIS DRAMA IS 9/10
