JULY 2023 WRAP UP

I swear where is 2023 going? I can't believe July is ending and August is right around the corner. Maybe it seems like it is going fast because my life has been crazy in July! My life was so crazy in July, I am surprised I finished as many dramas as I did!

I will mention that since I am in support of the strike that is going on against certain streaming platforms, not all I completed in July will be included in this post. So, just know that even if my list is pretty long already for July, I am missing 3 dramas at least from this blog post.

DRAMAS/MOVIES I COMPLETED IN JULY

I completed a fair number of dramas over the last month. That is very surprising because my life HAS BEEN CRAZY as I said above. Also, as I stated above, some dramas are missing from this list (3 dramas) but just know I loved all of the 3 dramas that are missing. I AM SO GLAD I AM OUT OF MY SLUMP!!

Lies Hidden in My Garden (Kdrama) (VIKI): If you love crime dramas, you should check out this drama. This is a SOLID slow burn creepy suspense thriller. I loved all the twists. It really knew how to make the audience suspect everyone and was unpredictable. There were some unanswered questions left at the end of the drama.

Camp ZeroBaseOne (KVariety) (VIKI): I recently completed Boys Planet so this variety show was a nice follow-up to that show. I loved this group so; it was entertaining seeing them interact at the official group together. I am always a sucker for these travel variety shows. I loved watching the members getting to know each other more and interact with each other.

The New Employee (Kdrama) (VIKI): This BL Kdrama is the perfect binge. It is really cute and has little to no angst. I loved how the main couple's relationship progressed. I think this drama could have been even better if it has longer episodes or more episodes.

The Director Who Buys Me Dinner (Kdrama) (iQIYI): This drama has a good concept for a drama. It wasn't 100% executed perfectly though. It could have benefitted a lot from longer episodes or more episodes overall. I thought some of the plot points and parts of the story were unnecessary. I also wanted the drama to delve deeper and give more context to other parts of the story which it didn't. I liked the acting and the main couple though.

Numbers (Kdrama) (VIKI): This was a decent drama but could have been better. I expected the acting to be good which it was. I wanted more bromance between the two male leads. It seems like one of the leads disappeared in the middle of the drama or took a back seat. I also only cared about 1 of the 2 romances in the drama. The other romance could have not existed and I would have been fine with it. A big hurtle with this drama is all of the accounting stuff. VIKI's subtitles did a great job explaining everything the characters were talking about and giving more context but the accounting stuff still went over my head. All of the accounting stuff sort of weighed the drama down. I was also very confused with the ending. There are a lot better revenge and fight against corruption kdramas that you can choose to watch over this one.

An Ancient Love Song (Cdrama) (VIKI): A beautiful story that is the perfect binge. I loved the main couple and their story. They had good chemistry and were great playing a couple that longed for each other. I loved all the little meanings sprinkled into the story and how everything eventually was revealed and was connected. This drama stood out because it had a unique concept of time travel. I will say the ending was a little lackluster for me. I wanted more. It had a talented cast though and I hope to see more of their dramas.

NEW AUGUST 2023 DRAMAS I AM EXCITED FOR:

August might look a little different for my watchlist. I am excited for 2 Kdramas that are premiering in August. Overall, a lot of the August Kdramas aren't appealing to me. So, I might be watching a lot of Asian dramas from other countries in August. I am not opposed to this at all. I am excited to see what I end up watching and enjoying.

Sing My Crush (Kdrama) (iQIYI): [PREMIRES AUGUST 2ND, 2023]

I think one of the reasons I am planning on checking this out when it airs is because I have so few Kdramas that I am looking forward to in August. I also will always watch and support all the gay dramas we get; from whatever country they are from! Youth dramas are not my thing but the synopsis says that it is a mix of when the characters were in school and as adults. I hope this drama is one with very little angst because I know some of the other dramas I am looking forward to in August will have LOTS OF ANGST IN THEM!

My Dearest Part 1(Kdrama) (VIKI): [PREMIERES AUGUST 4TH, 2023]

THE TRAILERS AND POSTERS FOR THIS DRAMAS LOOK ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! They totally sold me on this drama. I KNOW this drama will kill me because of angst and sadness but I am willing to deal with that with this drama. I am also SUPER curious to see Namkoong Min in a historical drama. I just love him as an actor. I will say I am not planning on starting this drama right when it premieres. It is going to be split into 2 parts. The second part will be premiering in October apparently so, I plan start it closer to October so, I can watch Part 2 as it airs.

Story of Kunning Palace (Cdrama) (iQIYI): [RUMORED TO PREMIERE AUGUST 13TH, 2023]

CAN THIS DRAMA JUST PREMIERE AND AIR ALREADY!!? I swear this is like the third or fourth rumored date that Story of Kunning Palace has had. I will not get excited for this drama until I see it officially premiere and finish airing. I hope it will officially premiere on August 13th so the wait can be over.

Doctor Detective (Thai Drama): [PREMIERES AUGUST 21ST, 2023]

I hope I get access to this Thai drama with English subs. You guys know I love the crazy dramas. Doctor Detective looks like it could be one of those disaster filled, crazy dramas that are fun to watch. I am a sucker for the medical investigation dramas as well. There are not many that are made but when they are, they always are on my radar. I don't know a lot of the cast which I am fine with because I always love being introduced to new actors/actresses through dramas I watch. We will see where this one ends up and if I will be able to check it out.

The Betrayal (Thai Drama): [PREMIERES AUGUST 23RD, 2023]

Something else I am sure everyone knows about me by now I LOVE THE CRAZY DRAMAS! I like the cheating and murder dramas. THIS DRAMA LOOKS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY! I know it is based off of a couple of other dramas and shows which I have not seen but I have heard of. I have had my eye on this one since it was announced a while back so I am happy to see that it has a premiere date now. We will see if I get access to this one as well.

That is all I watched in July and what I am looking forward to in August. As I said above, August is going to look very different for my watchlist. I am actually sort of excited for that because I tend to watch a lot of Kdramas. I always want to add variety to my watchlist because then I can add all kinds of reviews for you here on the blog. That also adds variety to my blog and not just skew it towards kdramas all the time. I am curious - what dramas do you want me to check out in August? What do you like reading the most? What dramas did you start in June? Did you complete any dramas in June? What did you like that you completed? What are you looking forward to in July for dramas? What about any movies? Anything I missed and need to add to my list? Is your list short or long? Are you out of your drama slump like me if you were in one?
