AUGUST 2023 WRAP UP

September is here which means another month has ended and now another month wrap up post needs to be written. What did I watch in August? What did I complete in August? What did I like that I completed in August? As always, we will talk about what I am looking forward to in September 2023 as well.

As I have previously mentioned, I am in support of the strike that is going on against certain streaming platforms. So, I will not be mentioning or talking about any of the dramas that are supposed to air and/or are made by these streaming sites. THESE STREAMING SITES NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND END THESE STRIKES SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE STUFF WE LOVE ALREADY! It has been going on too long!

ANYWAY....back to what I completed in August 2023

DRAMAS/MOVIES I COMPLETED IN AUGUST

I completed a decent number of dramas and movies in August. I also like that I completed a variety of things, both in country and genre. I love when I can give you guys variety in what you might want to watch next. As always, know that I liked some of these more than others.

Enigma (Thai Drama) (Youtube): There is very little I did not like about Enigma. I think it was WAY too short. It needed more episodes because I think some context wasn't there. I also need a season 2 because there is more story to tell. The acting was great. The leads had awesome chemistry. The story compelling. It was definitely a little scary but not as scary as I thought it would be. I REALLY NEED A SEASON 2!!

Oh No! Here Comes Trouble (TDrama) (iQIYI): I have nothing bad to say about this drama. If you have not seen this Taiwanese drama, YOU NEED TO RUN TO YOUR TV AND CLICK PLAY RIGHT NOW! The only "bad thing" I will say about this drama is that some threads were left unfinished at the end because these drama needs a season 2 AND WE ALL WANT A SEASON 2!! I loved the trio in this drama. I loved the fantasy elements. I loved the found family and heartwarming moments. It had unexpected comedy which helped break up the serious and dark parts of this drama. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS DRAMA IS WONDERFUL!

Tokyo in April is....(Jdrama) (VIKI): There is something about Jdramas, man. I love how realistic the romance dramas can be. I know there are still some sappy romance jdramas as well. Tokyo in April is... was a heartbreakingly realistic Jdrama about two people finding each other again after a long time apart. Trigger-warning for sexual assault in this drama and it can also get quite dark at times. This Japanese drama had wonderful acting and OSTs. I did think the ending was a little rushed.

Butterflied Lover (Cdrama) (VIKI): This is a great short cdrama. The story was quite unique. Loved how both couples were devoted to each other. I was a little confused with the last episode & didn’t like that it was up to audience to decide what that last episode was. The Snow scenes are beautiful. For a web-drama, it has beautiful cinematography and I want to see more of these actors' works in the future.

Secret Zoo (KMovie): I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I have a weird sense of humor. Since this is a comedy movie, I thought I would not like it. I found that I laugh at some parts. I will say I probably didn't find parts funny that you/general audience would find funny. It had some unexpected heartwarming moments as well. I say give it a shot if you are looking for a funny movie to watch and take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

Durian's Affair (Kdrama) (VIKI): What was this drama? What were the last 2 episodes & ending? I was entertained & had fun but the middle dragged. Some of the characters I ended up not caring about by the end. Some characters annoyed me as time went on so, I actively got annoyed every time their faces showed up on my screen. The last 2 episodes were rushed and confusing. Half of the characters got no ending but I’m glad my 2 ships sailed (I think). I should have known what I was in for with who this writer was. I really should have dropped this one to be honest.

DRAMAS I DROPPED IN AUGUST

I dropped A LOT of dramas in August. More than I expected to drop but also more than I usually drop. I always say life is too short and if I am not enjoying a drama, I am just going to drop it. I am not going to trudge through a drama just to complete it. I don't like hatewatching things and I don't like completing a drama just to rate it really low.

The Real Has Come! (Kdrama): As always, I just got too far behind on this drama. It became a chore to watch and that is never a good thing. So, I dropped it instead of trudging along and trying to finish it.

Behind Your Smile (Tdrama): I took this off on ON-HOLD list to see if I wanted to continue watching drama and complete it. I just could not warm up to the female lead and she annoyed me. So, I officially dropped it.

The Evidence Tells (Cdrama): I wanted to like this. I wanted to finish this drama because the episodes were only 20 minutes long. It was taking me FOREVER to watch 1 episode though. The subs were horrible on the platform I was watching it on. The episodes also cut off at weird times in my opinion too.

Longing For You (Kdrama): I was enjoying this one until episode 4 or so. After episode 4 or 5 I thought I could predict everything that was about to occur in the drama. I never like when I can predict a crime drama. Now, I don't know if my predictions actually came true but I didn't want to continue to find out.

NEW SEPTEMBER 2023 DRAMAS I AM EXCITED FOR:

I honestly am not excited for a lot of dramas that I can talk about in this blogpost due to the strikes. 😂 I also don't even know if I will have access to any of the ones, I am excited about either. I also am not that excited for many dramas in September. So, September will be an interesting drama month for me. AM I IN A DRAMA SLUMP AGAIN!? 😫

My Journey To You (Cdrama) (iQIYI): [PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2023] This cdrama came out of nowhere today and dropped 3 episodes onto iQIYI. I am going to attempt to watch a cdrama as it airs. WE WILL SEE HOW THIS GOES! My track record for keeping up with airing cdramas is not very good. I don't think I am in a drama slump but I need a new drama to be excited about. I saw the trailer and posters for this drama and I AM VERY excited to watch this one. I am happy that we are getting it. I just hope all the episodes air and everything goes fine with this drama.

7 Escape: War for Survival (Kdrama): [PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2023]

You know I never could get into Penthouse. I tried watched the first episode of the first season and it just wasn't for me. I am hoping this one works for me. I know it is written by the same writer as the Penthouse series. Should I try the Penthouse series again? I am excited about a lot of these cast members and it looks SO makjang and over the top.

You Are Mine (Tdrama) (VIKI): [PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2023]

Any time a Taiwanese BL drama announces that it will air in the coming month, I am excited for it. We don't get a lot of these and we don't get a lot of new Taiwanese dramas as well. I really need to watch more Taiwanese dramas. I feel like there is many that I have not seen. You Are Mind has a lot of things I love about dramas such as office romance and the boss and employee trope.

Hyo Shim's Independent Life (Kdrama): [PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 16TH, 2023]

UEE IS BACK IN A WEEKENDER FAMILY DRAMA! I am not going to start this drama until I am done with the current daily drama I am watching BUT I AM EXCITED TO WATCH THIS ONE! Ha Joon is the male lead in this drama and I am a HUGE fan of him as well. I hope this drama does well and catapults them to new heights. I also hope we get this on a streaming site at some point too BECAUSE I NEED IT!

That is all I watched in August and what I am looking forward to in September. I am really hoping I get access to some of the ones I don't have access to right now. I am so glad I was able to put a confirmed cdrama in this blogpost since it aired its first episode today. I have been looking forward to this one too. The trailer looks so good.

I am curious - what do you guys come to my blog for?
